Reflections of a Prodigal Nation: Studies in II Chronicles
The theme for our First AnnualHarold D. Archibald Leadership Conference is: Reflections of a Prodigal Nation: Studies in II Chronicles. The watchword for the study is house. In scope, II Chronicles ranges from the building, through the burning of the original house, and ultimately to God’s charge for Cyrus to build another house. David sat in his house of cedar and envisioned a house for God to replace the tabernacle. God rejected David as the builder, but promised to build David a house, establishing his kingdom forever (II Sam. 7:1-14). David’s descendants did detestable practices in God’s house, so God exiled Judah to Babylon for 70 years. Israel’s leaders indirectly determined the direction for Jerusalem, Israel and even surrounding nations, with their governance of God’s house. Nonetheless, when the captives were released, the Davidic lineage returned and generated another king-prince named Jesus Christ, who as a son over His own house, whose house we are… (Heb. 3:16), reconciled the nations into one body by the cross. Since the establishment of the church, leaders have faced the challenge of being true to God and His House. The aim of this conference is to encourage and equip contemporary leaders of God’s House.
The Midtown and Raleigh Springs churches are encouraging faithfulness among leaders and congregations. We welcome you to participate in our First Annual Harold D. Archibald Leadership Conference April 3rd - 5th. This three-day conference is named for a very honorable elder of the Midtown church, who passed to glory on November 30, 2012. The conference features Dr. M. Patrick Graham, Dr. Edward Robinson, Dr. Harold Shank and Dr. David Jones, Jr. These accomplished leaders will guide us on a scriptural journey as we reflect on the theme: Reflections of a Prodigal Nation: Studies in II Chronicles. They will teach us afresh the significance of God’s House!
The 17th Annual M. A. Hull Scholarship Banquet on Friday April 4, will be a highlight of the conference. Dr. David Jones Jr., a 2008 M. A. Hull Scholarship Honoree and the longtime minister of the Schrader Lane Church in Nashville, TN will be the guest speaker. All proceeds from the banquet fund the M. A. Hull Scholarship Program, which honors Bro. Moses A. Hull by training men to do what he committed his life to—preaching. Scholarship recipients pursue graduate degrees at Harding School of Theology in Memphis, TN. Our goal is to continue to train leaders who will be faithful to God and preach the gospel until Jesus returns.
This year, we extend the invitation to all surrounding congregations to support us in our enduring commitment to the development of Christian leaders. This endeavor and more like it can only be accomplished through the joint efforts of those who fervently serve the house of God; and, of course, our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ are counted among that number. Therefore, we encourage you to show up and be a part of our studies and fellowship!
